Teacher Appreciation week is almost here and this is the time when your PTO gets to show the love. Many teachers, when asked, will simply ask for items for their classrooms. While these are excellent gifts, you may want to consider activities and gifts that show you value the school staff themselves – not just a well-stocked classroom.
Here are some creative ideas that your teachers will love:
1. Garden-ready Flowers
Since Teacher Appreciation week falls in the spring, what better gift than annuals or perennials that are ready to plant. These are easy to prepare. Simply buy a multi-pack of flowers from your local nursery or home improvement store and wrap each flower in colorful tissue paper or even in a colorful cup. If you set these up on a table they also make a lovely display.
2. Re-hydration Station
This seems simple but is always very much appreciated. Gather a collection of different beverages. A water station can include, still water, sparkling water or a flavored water such as LaCroix. Accessorize the water station with slices of lemons, limes and oranges. Bonus points for colorful straws in a vase for a cherry set up.
Extra bonus points if you channel fancy hotel vibes and put the water in a beverage dispenser with the fruit – or flowers! Here are some examples of flavors to use:
- Spa fruit water: Honeydew or cantaloupe + cucumber slices + mint
- Strawberry fruit water: Strawberries + Kiwi + mint
- Tropical fruit water: Frozen pineapple slices + coconut chunks + mango chunks
- Tummy cleanse fruit water: Blackberries + lemon + ginger
- Watermelon fruit water: Frozen watermelon chunks + kiwi slices + lemon slices
3. Bring in the Food Trucks
Sure, pizza parties are fun, but they can be underwhelming. A sure-fire way to make lunch is festive and fun is to bring in local food truck(s). Just think – a taco truck, a BBQ truck, AND pizza! There are also coffee trucks that can be available if a morning meal makes more sense for your school. Just remember – if you’re going to provide lunch, give the staff advance notice so they don’t bring their own lunch from home.
4. Personalized Gift Certificates
Gift certificates are always welcome but they have some limitations. They are usually tied to a particular store and it is difficult to personalize them with your logo and message of support. Certificates for food items like those supplied by gThankYou allow for you to select the amount and the recipient gets to use it at whatever grocery store they’d like.
5. Make Your Own Bouquet Station
Everyone likes flowers – even the men – and why not borrow from a wedding trend to support your teachers? This set up involves going to a wholesale store – either a flower wholesaler or even Costco or Sam’s Club – and buying bulk flowers. Put them in large containers. Then supply a roll or sheets of brown paper and some pretty ribbon. Each participant can create their own customized bouquet using a selection of the flowers. They wrap their bouquet in the paper and tie it with the ribbon and voila! – a beautiful gift.
6. A Hands on Approach to Stress Relief
A favorite for sure will be bringing in an on-site chair massage specialist. Always select a reputable company with licensed massage therapists. Many will bring their own equipment including a professional massage chair. Watch the stress melt away as everyone enjoys this special perk for Teacher Appreciation.
Go the extra mile to dazzle your teachers and school staff. Teacher Appreciation is officially celebrated in May, but these gifts and treats can be used all year long! Happy Appreciation Week and thank you teachers.
