As we head back to school, it’s a good time to take a moment to say thank you to custodians who keep our schools clean and safe. These essential workers often go unnoticed, but their contributions are vital to the success of our schools.

National Custodian Day is officially October 2, but why wait?

Kick off the school year with an abundance of gratitude for those who helped clean up and get our schools ready for staff and students. Hang a giant custodian thank you card and hang it up for everyone to sign and set the tone for everyone who enters the building.

Custodial staff are responsible for a wide range of tasks, from cleaning classrooms and hallways to maintaining the grounds and equipment. They work long hours, often early in the morning or late at night, to ensure that our schools are clean and sanitary. They also deal with a lot of messes, from spilled food to broken glass.

In addition to their physical work, custodial staff also play an important role in creating a positive learning environment. They are often the first people students and staff see when they arrive at school, and their friendly and welcoming demeanor can set the tone for the day. They also help to keep our schools safe by ensuring that fire alarms are working properly and that there are no safety hazards.

So next time you see a custodian hard at work, take a moment to thank them for their dedication. They play an important role in our schools, and we appreciate their hard work.

Here are some ways to show your appreciation to custodial staff:

Say thank you. A simple thank you to custodians can go a long way.
Leave a custodian appreciation card. (Homemade by kids is best!)
Offer to help out. If you see a custodian who is struggling with a task, offer to help.
Bring them a treat. A small gift, such as a coffee, donut or gift certificate, is a nice way to show your appreciation.
