Share Your Teacher Gratitude

Inspiration. Guidance. Understanding. Dedication. Hope. These are the words we use when we speak about our teachers. There is no other profession on earth where praise is so well deserved, but teacher gratitude is not expressed out loud often enough. Our teachers deserve to be recognized, not just once a year during National Teacher Day, but all the time. Here at gThankYou, we’d like to take a moment during this back-to-school time to thank our teachers for everything they do.
Author Muriel Spark once said, “To me, education is a leading out of what is already there in the pupil’s soul.” Teachers have an understanding that all children learn a little differently. To be effective in their field, they need to be able to identify which areas to focus on and provide curriculum, projects, and classroom discussion topics that are suitable for a broad audience. At the same time, teachers need to leave time open to do the one on one interaction that means so much in a child’s educational and personal development. Everyone has “that teacher” who they remember as a key motivator in becoming who they are today. Do you remember yours?
Inspiring Children to Become Teachers Some Day
If you ask a child what he or she wants to do when they grow up, what will their response be? Cowboys, firefighters, policemen, princesses, and Presidents are all pretty common. A child who answers “teacher” has experienced something special. That only happens when a teacher has really connected. A sense of self-confidence and adulation for the teaching profession has been instilled in a young mind, and the spark of an idea has been elevated to a passion for something – growing up to become what they admire most – their teacher.
What does it take to become a teacher? The Wisconsin Education Association has a page on their website outlining the Ten Teacher Standards that have to be part of any teacher preparatory programs in the state. One of those standards is that “Teachers know how children grow.” The description of that standard talks about providing instruction that will support “intellectual, social, and personal development.” Our teachers do far more than just administer tests and pass out homework. They’re an integral piece to the foundation and structure of our society. That’s a pretty important job. Thank you to all who do it.
Thank Your Teachers on the First Day of School
Don’t wait until school is over to thank those who will teach your children (or you) this fall. Simply saying the words “Thank You” when you drop your child off can help get the year off to a great start for both teachers and students. If there’s someone special you’d like to say a few online words about, tweet #ThankATeacher and be sure to mention them by name. There’s a site out there called Hashtags.org that tracks the number of times that hash tag appears. This morning, sadly, the site showed that there had been no instances of #ThankATeacher on Twitter in the past twenty-four hours. You can change that right now.

Filmmaker and Academy Award winner Roberto Benigni once said, “It’s a sign of mediocrity when you demonstrate gratitude with moderation.” When it comes to teachers, we can never be grateful enough, so don’t hold back in showing that gratitude.
